I am happy to hear from prospective doctoral students whose interests overlap with my research. Strong candidates typically have solid training in economics and econometrics, curiosity about policy-relevant questions, and the motivation to develop an independent research agenda.

How to express interest

Email a CV, transcripts, and a brief statement describing your research interests, preparation, and potential fit. You may also include a research paper or other writing sample. Formal admission is handled through the relevant Peking University doctoral admissions process.

I welcome inquiries from researchers completing, or recently completing, a PhD in economics or a related quantitative field. Applicants should demonstrate strong empirical skills, the ability to lead independent work, and an interest in collaborative research using administrative, survey, or spatial data.

Peking University Boya Postdoctoral Fellowship / 北京大学博雅博士后

Eligible applicants may also seek support through the two-year Peking University Boya Postdoctoral Fellowship. Under the university's 2026 call, the fellowship provides a basic annual salary of RMB 200,000 before tax, social insurance, occupational annuity, and housing-fund benefits, plus either a postdoctoral apartment or an annual RMB 60,000 housing allowance. Depending on the candidate, the host or department may provide an additional RMB 30,000, 60,000, or 90,000 per year.

How to apply

Email a CV, a research statement, one representative paper, and the names of two references. Please briefly describe the projects you hope to pursue and how they connect with the team's research. Appointments depend on available positions and the formal requirements of Peking University.

Part-time RA opportunities are available throughout the year. Typical work may include literature reviews, data collection and cleaning, geospatial processing, econometric analysis, visualization, and replication. Applicants from economics, public policy, statistics, data science, or related fields are welcome.

What I look for

Careful and reliable work, clear communication, and proficiency in at least one of Stata, R, or Python are essential. Experience with GIS, machine learning, large datasets, or reproducible research workflows is especially useful.
